Lemon Balm has a long history in Mediterranean herbal traditions. Its genus name, Melissa means "honey bee" in greek. This probably refers to the fact that this herb was commonly planted near beehives in order to encourage honey bees to return to their hive. The pioneering 16th-century alchemist, Paracelsus dubbed lemon balm, "the elixir of life" and its medicinal preparation was usually the first creation of beginning alchemists. Since then, this highly adaptive member of the mint family has spread around the world and has largely naturalized in many wild spaces including the pacific northwest.
Lemon balm is still frequently grown and used for its anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, immune-boosting properties, and green citrus-like aromatics. This hydrosol is excellent for calming the skin, balancing its pH, scaring away pesky insects, and warding off environmental stressors. Lemon balm's essential oil is one of the most expensive oils available today.
We distill this hydrosol from our own fresh house-grown lemon balm harvested at peak season. We blend most of this hydrosol to craft our Melissa Aloe & Wild Rose Toner but we are offering a small amount directly to you. This is an extremely limited batch so get it before it's gone.
HOW TO USE For maximum hydration saturate skin with hydrosol - five to seven full sprays. With clean hands, press completely into skin. To help restore the protective hydro-lipid balance of the skin, follow with facial Oil or Serum.
Also useful as a deodorizing room spray, for freshening linens, and for promoting a positive state of mind.
